Moving Image Preservation Specialist New York University The Preservation Department of New York University Libraries and the Department of Cinema Studies in the Tisch School of the Arts seek a Preservation Specialist for a three-year, faculty, non-tenure track appointment. The position will be responsible for developing a preservation program for moving image collections held in New York University Libraries, and will participate in the Tisch School's new MA degree program in Moving Image Archiving and Preservation. This joint appointment, funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, starts as early as June 2002. The moving image materials currently held in New York University Libraries include: 8mm,16mm, 35mm, and video (mostly VHS, some Beta). Some of these materials are unique copies. Qualifications: formal training in moving image technology or equivalent experience, together with extensive experience in moving image archiving and preservation, including knowledge of the recommended practices and guidelines for archival restoration and transfer of moving images; strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to work independently and productively in a fluid, complex organization and to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; commitment to the education of future preservationists. Teaching experience desirable. Degrees in relevant fields (eg. MLS, MA, MFA) desirable. Excellent benefits package. Salary is commensurate with experience.
