Subject: Linoleum
Linoleum needs to be taken up from the floor of a historic house within the next two weeks. It is "real" linoleum and has a textile (hessian?) backing. It is very worn and has lost much of its colour. It is brittle, crumbly, is beginning to crack and there are a few holes. There are two small sections which can be easily lifted and one larger section, approximately 15 by 4 feet. The larger section will need to be supported when moved. It was suggested it could be cut into two or three more manageable sections but apparently cutting linoleum in such condition would cause severe crumbling. It is thought to have been manufactured by Fenbo Nairn a company now based in Dundee. They have been invited to come and look at the linoleum and it may be possible to have it reproduced for use in the room. I would be very grateful for any advice on moving, storing and treating the linoleum.
