Subject: Preservation Management Institute
Rutgers University SCILS will be sponsoring its biennial Preservation Management Institute beginning in Fall 2002. The Institute is designed for working librarians and archivists who have preservation responsibilities but little formal preservation education. The program involves a full week of classes in New Jersey in fall 2002, another week in spring 2003, and a final week in fall 2003. The week-long sessions include classroom instruction with a lead instructor and expert guest speakers, some hands-on experiences, and three field trips. Between the three weeks of classes participants conduct guided preservation planning activities for their home institutions (or we can match you up with an institution), including conducting a preservation survey and drafting a disaster plan. We have had participants from around the country participate in this program during the last two Institutes. They have given the program extremely high ratings. Enrollment in the Institute will be limited.
