Subject: Workshop on ancient Peruvian textiles
Ancient Peruvian Textiles Workshops will take place in Arequipa, Peru from June 15 through July 6 at the Universidad Nacional de San Agustin Museum. A two-week course for beginners will take place simultaneously with a two-week advanced course for experienced textile conservators, from June 15 through 28. The workshops are designed for anyone interested in textiles, conservation, collections care, archaeology, anthropology, or the ancient cultures of Peru. Participants will learn about Peruvian textiles and perform treatment on museum pieces alongside Peruvian students. A one-week advanced course will also be held from June 28 through July 6 for those who have already taken the two-week course. Ancient weaving techniques and cultural interpretation are taught by Jennifer Michel, Professor of Art History at Brooks College of Design in Long Beach, California. Conservation classes are taught by Camille Myers Breeze, textile conservator and Professional Associate of the American Institute for Conservation. Ancient Peruvian Textiles Workshops have been training Peruvians and Americans together since 1995.
