Preservation Planning for Archives South Carolina State Library, Columbia, SC Thursday, February 21, 2002 9am-4pm The basic elements of archival arrangement and description- surveying, selecting, and holdings maintenance- are essential components of archives preservation management. These activities exemplify a practical approach to preserving materials housed in repositories, regardless of size or scope. The emphasis is on stabilizing archival records in order to extend their life by: determining the preservation needs of the institution, developing a systematic methodology for preservation priorities, and improving housing and storage materials and practices. The instructor is Pamela Hackbart-Dean, the Archivist of the Southern Labor Archives at Georgia State University. Cost: $95 SOLINET members, all categories ($85 early bird, $120 late registration); $135 non-members ($125 early bird, $160 late registration). Any institution in South Carolina qualifies for the member rate. Partial funding for these workshops has been provided by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Division of Preservation and Access.
