Subject: Treaty binding
I'm working on a ratification between Iran and The Netherlands from 1930 which giving me problems for the identification of the materials. This is a kind of islamic binding, in fact more a cover or portfolio (without sewing) with the ratification inside. The back is made from brown leather; the boards are made with a kind of textile on the boards, they are decorated on the 2 sides with a kind of oil painting. The painting is on a layer of paper and a matte preparation (a little like a gouache). This paint is in very bad condition with a large missing parts, flakes. I'm trying to find some information about the materials and the treatment to consolidate this layer; maybe a painting conservation can help me because the specialist in book conservation works most of the time on older objects.
