Senior Artefact Mounting Technician Artefact Mounting Technician Paper Conservator (Archives) National Museums and Galleries on Merseyside Senior Artefact Mounting Technician Salary UKP15,000 Artefact Mounting Technician Salary UKP11,500 Fixed term contracts until 30th June 2003 Based at the Conservation Centre, you will join a small team of technicians involved with the preparation and installation of object mounts for NMGM Into the Future displays. Your main duties will be the design and manufacture of high quality display mounts and armatures, custom made to suit a diverse range of museum artefacts. A high level of technical skill with aesthetic sensitivity is required. Experience in using engineering and woodworking machinery as well as hand tools is essential including the use of welding equipment and thermoforming fabrication machines. You will have the ability to read and work from drawings, case layouts and gallery designs. A working knowledge of a wide range of materials and associated relevant COSHH and Health and Safety legislation is vital. You should preferably have had experience in the safe handling of museum objects, following conservation principles and guidelines. An appropriate qualification and/or experience in pattern making and model making is desirable. The senior technician will also work closely with conservators and designers in the installation of gallery displays and should have good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to react quickly and effectively under pressure. Paper Conservator (Archives) 6 month fixed term contract Salary up to UKP15,750 NMGM is looking for a Paper Conservator in the field of Archives with the ability to undertake work of a high order. You will work on an exciting range of items from NMGM's collections within a busy conservation section. You will have a degree and/or an equivalent qualification in the Conservation of Archives.
