Colour fills for the Conservation of Ceramics and Glass Campbell Center for Historic Preservation Studies Mt. Carroll IL May 13-18, 2002 A six-day, mid-career course dealing with colour(ed) fills for the conservation and restoration of ceramics and glass is being offered at the Campbell Center for Historic Preservation Studies, Mt. Carroll, IL, USA A specialist short course developed for conservators and restorers of ceramics and glass. This is a hands-on, practical course that teaches the practices and techniques for custom mixing and applying translucent, semi-translucent and opaque fills that matches (to the desired degree) the ceramic or glass object in terms of colour, hardness, texture and opacity. The theory of colour pigments will also be treated. While this curriculum takes full account of current conservation ethics, it will also prove of equal relevance and value to restorers, who will appreciate the subject's possibilities also in studio restoration. Course materials include: * Epoxy resins: Araldite 20/20, Hxtal NYL1, Fynebond, AY103 and HY936 * Acrylic polymers: Paraloid B72, Paraloid B44, Paraloid B67 * Vinyl polymers: Vinamul 3252, Mowital B30H, Mowiol/PVA * Cellulose derivatives (cellulose nitrate) as well as polyester resin. * Bulking agents: titanium dioxide, gesso powder, marble filler, pumice powder, fumed silica's (OK412 and AR200) glass bubbles/balloons, hollofill, glass beads and phenolic resin.
