The New York City Parks Department has had a requirement in force since 1985 that all new public art works given to the City include an endowment adequate for funding on-going maintenance. Negotiations for such funds must be put in place early in the donation process to assure that the targeted budget for the art work includes the endowment. Funds are administrated through the departments office of Art and Antiquities.
