Tortoise shell

This enquiry is place on behalf of an European furniture restorer
without access to the List.

What might be used for infill repairs on a table originally layered
with tortoise shell. The restorer tells me that he is anxious to
provide as close a finish in both the texture of the infill and its
colour as possible and wondered in light of the conservation aspect
what other restorers used and where materials could be obtained
from.
