Publications Manager ICCROM - Rome ICCROM (The International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property) is seeking to appoint a Publications Manager who will expand its publications programme and help to promote the organization's work effectively throughout the world. This is a key management position, reporting to the Director-General. The position is currently vacant. ICCROM is an intergovernmental organization (created by UNESCO in 1956) with a mandate to raise the levels of conservation of cultural heritage worldwide. It has currently 104 Member States. Essential components of its work are the production and dissemination of technical and didactic material, and of promotional material about its activities. The Publications Manager is responsible for strategic planning, implementation and monitoring of the effectiveness of these operations. He/she liaises closely with a team of a dozen professionals and support staff in the Office of Communication and Information. Knowledge, skills and experience required: At least 5 years experience of editing and publishing academic or technical books or journals. Ability to work with traditional and electronic media. Experience of working with other publishers, designers and printers. Familiarity with cultural conservation terminology. Must have excellent teamwork, managerial and communication skills, preferably with experience in an international, multicultural environment. Ability to edit to the highest standards in one of ICCROM's official languages (English and French). Knowledge of Italian an advantage. Terms and benefits: The Publications Manager will be appointed for an initial period of four years, with the first year being probationary, and will be resident in Rome. The post carries a salary correlated with the United Nations personnel system level P3/05, currently (March 2002) commencing after post adjustment for Rome, at net US$53,796 (without dependents) and net US$57,696 (with dependents) per year. In addition, there are various allowances such as annual family allowances for eligible children and, for internationally recruited employees only, annual education grants, reimbursement for the cost of shipment of personal effects, home leave for staff members and dependents every three years and a repatriation grant at the end of the contract. The salary and allowances are net of taxes (ICCROM employees are not required to pay income tax, but if the home country requires payment, ICCROM reimburses the income tax paid) but subject to various deductions such as for medical insurance and contributions to the United Nations Pension Fund.
