Electronic Resources Librarian, full-time, tenure-track University at Albany, State University of New York Responsibilities: The University at Albany, State University of New York seeks candidates for the position of Electronic Resources Librarian. Reporting to and working closely with the Head of Cataloging Services, the successful candidate will provide leadership in developing comprehensive bibliographic access to the University's electronic resources. This will include taking a leadership role in the formulation of policies related to access to electronic resources and the role of the OPAC in providing coherent access to in-house and external electronic resources including locally developed scholarly digital resources. The Electronic Resources Librarian will also: Coordinate the cataloging of electronic resources, including creating original bibliographic records and managing copy cataloging, both with MARC and non-MARC metadata schemes. Investigate and participate in the implementation of solutions for providing bibliographic control for all types of electronic resources (including serials aggregators and locally created content). Manage the loading and maintenance of vendor supplied cataloging records. Coordinate policies and procedures with the Acquisitions Services Department and other divisions/units in the University Libraries. Serve as resource person for metadata schemes including monitoring trends in metadata issues and informing library staff of key developments. Perform original cataloging and complex copy cataloging of monographic items. Library faculty at the University at Albany, SUNY, are expected to fulfill faculty obligations in the areas of research, publication and service to the Libraries, University, and profession, as well as specific library assignments. Qualifications: Required--Graduate degree in librarianship from an ALA-accredit school or foreign equivalent. Knowledge of cataloging principles and tools, including AACR2, LCSH, LCCS, USMARC formats, etc. Experience using OCLC and/or RLIN. Familiarity with established and emerging metadata standards. Bibliographic knowledge of one or more Western European or East Asian languages. At least one year experience in an academic or research library or related environment. Demonstrated knowledge of or experience with current and emerging trends in libraries, higher education, and acquisition and use of electronic resources. Knowledge of or recent cataloging experience in an automated environment. Preferred--Electronic resources and/or serials cataloging experience in an academic or research library within the last five years. Working knowledge of SGML, HTML and TEI standards. Familiarity with mark-up languages. Salary: Commensurate with education and experience. Salary minimum of $36,200. Terms and Benefits: Twelve month appointment; sick leave and annual leave at 1.25 days each per month; health insurance; dental, vision and prescription coverage.
