Vacancy Announcement Number: 135422 Opening Date: April 16, 2002 Closing Date: May 16, 2002 Salary: GS-5 (10747) $22,737 - $29,559 ($25,347 - $32,952)* GS-6 (10748) $25,344 - $32,949 ($28,253 - $36,732)* GS-7 (10749) $28,164 - $36,615 ($31,397n - $40,818)* *Salary reflects locality Type of appointment: Indefinite not to exceed five years non-supervisory, bargaining unit position Brief Description of Duties: Incumbent at the GS-5 level will use an automated box-making system to construct custom fitted enclosures for Library materials from the permanent research collections; prepares materials for enclosure; removes materials from acid binders or containers and places them in appropriate protective enclosures; performs basic repairs such as tipping-in or repair paper, using heat-set tissue or Japanese paper, constructing pockets to house accompanying material or tightening hinges; assist in maintaining cleanliness and order in the repair facility; assure the physical safety of all Library materials assigned for repair or housing; works in a timely, accurate, and cost-effective manner; maintain worksheets on a daily basis; and participates in staff meetings, Library committees, or task forces. In addition to the duties listed above, incumbent at the GS-6 level will independently search the Library's on-line and manual catalogs to verify entry or call number; performs basic and intermediate repairs such as spine repair, recasing or new covers; handles RUSH requests; and perform quality assurance as batches of work are completed.
