Making traditional Western book and case papers Western Production Papermaking Workshop University of Iowa Center for the Book - Paper Facility Instructor: Lynn Amlie, Director and Paper Specialist June 17-21, 2002 10am - 5pm Spaces are still available for our upcoming workshop. We encourage conservators, and all those with an interest in historic handmade papers to apply. This intensive, non-credit workshop will introduce the production techniques developed and utilized by the UICB paper facility to make traditional European style book and case papers. Beginning with analysis of historical specimens, we will explore the materials, techniques and aesthetics which were characteristic of 15th-18th century papers. The course is appropriate for individuals with specific interest in the history, tradition and production of historic western papers. Prior experience in western papermaking is required. Space is limited to 9 participants who will be selected by the instructor based upon prior experience and commitment. Professionals from related fields are encouraged to apply. Cost for the workshop will be $350 for students and $400 for all others, plus a $50 materials fee.
