Open Forum: Converging, Emerging Standards for Digital Preservation At the American Library Association Annual Conference Atlanta, Georgia In an increasingly digital future, effectively preserving digital collections presents the library community with pressing challenges. If you are a practitioner or wish to stay informed on new developments, please join us for a discussion of new initiatives in digital preservation on Sunday, June 16, at the Omni Hotel Atlanta, 100 CNN Center, Atlanta, Georgia, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30. Rebecca Guenther, Library of Congress, will review the work of the OCLC-RLG Preservation Metadata Working Group. Janet Gertz, Columbia University, and Michael Seadle, Michigan State University, will focus on preservation metadata for particular media types--technical metadata for digital still images and new work in audiovisual metadata. Merrilee Proffitt, RLG, will address uses of the Metadata Encoding and Transmission Standard (METS). >From two institutions already implementing repositories that are compliant with the Open Archival Information System (OAIS) model, Stephen Abrams will discuss Harvard University's Submission Information Package for electronic journals, and Morgan Cundiff will discuss the Library of Congress's Archival Information Package for audiovisual materials.
