Supervisor of Binding and Shelf Preparation Columbia University Libraries Lib Spec I - Libraries, Morningside Campus Full-Time, Officer grade 10 Summary Description: The incumbent reports to the Director for Preservation and manages all activities of the Binding and Shelf Processing unit relating to shelf preparation and bindery preparation; supervises 6.5 full-time staff and GAs with responsibility for work performance, interviewing, hiring and evaluation; trains staff in all binding and shelf processing tasks; revises binding slips; selects binding treatments and locates materials in process; communicates with and trains other library staff about binding and shelf preparation procedures and policies; performs all processing tasks as needed to maintain productivity; manages the commercial binding invoicing process by processing all binding invoices and maintaining an online database of all invoices; prepares reports on the status of individual binding accounts as well as the overall binding budget; manages the commercial binding operation through acting as the primary contact with commercial binders; advises library staff on binding options; acts as a liaison and problem-solver between vendors and library staff; assists with investigating, testing and bringing into full operation systems for computer; produces spine labels and binding slips; and assists in other aspects of the CUL Preservation Program, as assigned. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent required. Demonstrated supervisory experience required. Ability to work with bibliographic information in a variety of languages required. Library experience and/or book binding experience preferred. Ability to move heavy boxes and book trucks and ability to work with dusty materials required. Knowledge of computer spreadsheet software preferred. Salary: Commensurate with experience. Available Immediately.
