Subject: Workshop on photodocumentation
Photodocumentation The Conservation Center, Institute of Fine Arts New York University August 26-30, 2002 9 am - 5 pm. $500.00 Application deadline: August 5, 2002 As part of the continuing education program for mid-career professionals, the Conservation Center, Institute of Fine Arts, New York University is offering a 5-day workshop on photodocumentation this summer. Photodocumentation plays a major role in conservation and the study of fine arts and architecture, but many professionals who use photography are self-taught. This intense hands-on workshop will provide all the skills, from simple to complex, necessary for consistent quality photographs under many conditions. The 5 day workshop begins with a review of the basics of 35mm SLR camera selection and operation. Criteria for choosing film or digital capture will be discussed. Subsequent classes will focus on photographic methods for two- and three-dimensional objects and architecture using 35mm and 4x5 format cameras with slide and b/w films. Photographs produced in the workshop will be critiqued to help identify means to produce more accurate photodocumentation with consistent exposures. This workshop will benefit experienced photographers, as well as novices, by improving photography skills while reducing film costs. If you own a 35mm camera and lens, bring them and their operation manuals but there is no need to purchase a camera specifically for this class. You may also bring examples of problematic or successful prints or slides to discuss.
