Duties: Serves as assistant to the Senior Preservation Specialist in
the reproduction and reformatting of archival records.  Has
responsibility for preserving, reformatting and duplicating textual
records and microfilm, as well as occasional photograph, computer
tape or other non-textual collections, using conservation
treatments, archival-quality microfilming or digital imaging
technology.  Maintains an understanding of trends in these areas and
proposes appropriate procedures for approval by the Preservation
Officer and Senior Preservation Specialist.  Monitors
vendor-contracted services relating to the reformatting or
digitization of archival records.  Monitors equipment and quality
control for in-house reformatting and digitization projects.
Provides technical guidance to lower-graded employees, making work
assignments and schedules, and reporting performance problems to
Senior Preservation Specialist.  Provides basic training to
technicians.  Compiles and maintains production statistics relating
to reformatting and digitization services (preferably through
original database development), as well as systems documentation
reports on technologies used in reformatting.  Prepares requisitions
for ordering equipment and supplies.  Researches materials, products
or procedures and proposes appropriate reproduction, reformatting
and duplication options.  Assists in conducting surveys of holdings,
which will be used to determine preservation priorities and work
schedules.  Assists individually or as a team member in other
preservation-related duties, including teaching, public outreach and
tours, disaster recover efforts, and archival re-housing, planning,
and implementation.

This position will be filled at the GS-9 level (salary range $37,545
to $48,805 per annum--new employees generally start at the minimum
