Subject: Preparing materials for freeze-drying
As part of the disaster preparedness plan for the Dutch Royal Library I have studied the best ways of freeze-drying. One question remained uncertain however. We are not sure how to pack our monographs before deep-freezing. It is suggested by the freeze-drying companies to use freeze-resistant 'plastic' bags. Some suggest leaving the bags open and others prefer the bags closed before deep-freezing. Of course the bags are removed before freeze-drying. Does anyone have any experience in packaging before deep-freezing for preservation purposes, or does anyone have any suggestions?
