A death

From: Marie Stumpff <macintosh>
Date: Thursday, September 5, 2002
Andrew D. Stone, Conservator of the Mackintosh Tea Rooms from Ingram
Street in Glasgow, died on Saturday, August 17th, 2002 aged 51. He
is buried at Kilbarchan Cemetery near Paisley in Scotland.

Andrew was employed as Furniture Conservator by Glasgow Museums from
1980. In the last 12 years of his life he was involved in the
Restoration of the Ingram Street Tea Rooms, and responsible for the
Restoration of the Ladies Luncheon Room also known as the White
Dining Room. This room was on display in the Mackintosh Exhibition
at the McLellan Galleries in 1996 and subsequently travelled to New
York, Chicago and Los Angeles. In 2000 the room was part of a large
exhibition at the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C. Andrew
travelled to all these venues to oversee the installation of the
Ladies Luncheon Room. He will be known to many Conservators and
Technicians in the U.S.A.

Here in Glasgow, his cheerful presence is missed every day and the
Mackintosh project has lost a key member of staff that drove the
work on with his total commitment, his energy and enthusiasm.
