Subject: Conference on photographic Conservation
Conference on the conservation of photographs Kutxas Auditorium, San Sebastian, Spain October 10-11, 2002 The Fundacion Ordonez-Falcon de fotografia organises a conference on the conservation of photographs. Professionals belonging to international institutions are invited to discuss on the situation of the profession at the beginning of the 21st century. During the last decades of the 20th century the conservation of photographic materials has developed into a discipline of its own, becoming one more of the specializations in the field of heritage preservation. This evolution started during the 1950's with the recognition of the historical and artistic value of photography and motion pictures, and with the new consciousness of the fragility of the original materials. At the beginning of this 21st century, the level reached by the discipline is considerable and the moment seems ripe to make an assessment and an historical analysis--still to be done--of its evolution. This international conference intends to be a forum for the analysis of the history and the future of the conservation of photographic materials, under the perspective of the interdisciplinarity of the field: history of photographs, conservation science and conservation practice.
