Position at Manchester Metropolitan University

From: Stephanie Boydell <s.boydell>
Date: Tuesday, September 10, 2002
Decorative art/object conservator
(One year in first instance with possibility of renewal/extension)
The Manchester Metropolitan University
Salary Grade: 5/6 (#16230 - #19646)

The University's collection of art and design objects is the
historic and almost intact collection of the Manchester School of
Art, founded in the 19th Century. The collection has recently been
brought together within the Sir Kenneth Green (All Saints) Library,
with a view to working towards Museum Registration and making the
collection accessible to researchers and students. The Library is
renowned for its special collections in Art and Design and has
attracted national funding for specific acquisition and conservation
in this area.

The successful candidate will have care of collections and
conservation expertise, and specifically will perform a
comprehensive conservation survey, undertake remedial conservation
as appropriate, and identify the need for, and facilitate, more
substantial repairs and restoration which may not be possible
in-house. He/she will work closely with the Art and Design Library
Services Manager, the Gallery Store Supervisor, the Paper
Conservator and the Archivist, on, for example, digitisation
activities, exhibitions and displays, and providing access to
students and researchers.
