ERPANET <URL:http://www.erpanet.org> is pleased to announce its
first training seminar on the Open Archival Information System
(OAIS) Model. This two day training session will be held in the
Black Diamond (Royal Library, Copenhagen, Denmark) on the 28-29 of
November 2002, and will provide participants with an opportunity to
learn about and interpret the OAIS Model and its wider applications.
The event is co-hosted by ERPANET and the Royal Library, Denmark.

Format: Participants should acquire a working knowledge of the full
range of preservation functions of the model. The seminar will
provide a walk-through of the model, an introduction to OAIS
metadata, experiences of current applications, and group work
sessions, which will focus on the possible application of the model
in the participants own organisation. There will also be the chance
to listen to and discuss with a range of both cultural heritage and
scientific sector experts the implementations and experiences they
have had working with the model.

This seminar has been designed to appeal to a broad array of
information professions, public bodies, commercial as well as
non-profit organisations, researchers, and anyone with an interest
in learning more about the preservation of digital information.

Participants will gain working knowledge of the full range of
information preservation functions of the model.  They will have the
opportunity to apply the model to their own sector and organisation.

Expert speakers include Robin Dale (Research Libraries Group), David
Giaretta (CCLRC Rutherford Appleton Laboratory), Hans Hofman
(Nationaal Archief van Nederland), David Holdsworth (CEDARS), Julien
Masanes (Bibliotheque nationale de France), Najla Semple (Edinburgh
University Library), and Deborah Woodyard (British Library).

The venue, The Black Diamond, has been very kindly made available by
the Royal Library.

The cost of this seminar is 150 Euros. This price includes learning
materials, lunch, and additional refreshments. Please register by
