Subject: Stereographic binding
I recently looked at a Victorian gift book titled 'The Rainbow', dated 1847. It was bound in tan calf with a very beautiful gilt design on the covers including some leather onlay. On the bottom of the spine was 'Patented Stereographic Binding'; I have not been able to turn up any information on this process. The design was very much out of character for the 1840s. Can anyone steer me to some information about the technique? J.
