While not intended as an alarm system, the Pinnacle ID/TRH might be able to serve your purpose. The ID/TRH is actually an internet datalogger for temperature and RH (hence the acronym) that transmits its data over the web. It has two additional ports for attaching compatible motion sensors, water sensors or a webcam. The unit must be near an AC outlet and an ethernet connection but maybe this would solve your problem as you would not have to hide it directly in or around the display case. The environmental data as well as alarm conditions from any of the attached sensors can be viewed real time on the web site (i.e. at a guard station or front desk, etc). If your room has these capabilities it may be worth looking at. The Pinnacle requires some setup to get it on your network but after that is very easy to use.
