Head of Preservation The Sheridan Libraries Johns Hopkins University The Head of Preservation is responsible for developing, implementing, and administering the preservation and conservation policies, programs, and activities of the Sheridan Libraries. This will include administering all grant funded preservation education and conservation training activities; developing and recommending policies and programs to conserve and preserve the Libraries' collections; representing the Libraries in preservation activities involving local, state, regional, national, and international agencies and organizations and providing leadership in the development of cooperative preservation projects; and organizing, managing and planning for all preservation activities reporting to this position: General Collections, Conservation, Special Collections Conservation, the Commercial Binding Office and Preparations. The positions reporting to the Head of Preservation include Special Collections Conservator, Special Collections Conservation Assistant, General Collections Conservator, General Collections Conservation Assistant, Commercial Binding Office Supervisor, Commercial Binding Office Assistant, and Preparations Supervisor. The incumbent will report to the Dean of University Libraries and serve on the Libraries' management team. The Sheridan Libraries encompass the Milton S. Eisenhower Library and its collections at the John Work Garrett Library, the George Peabody Library, and the Albert D. Hutzler Undergraduate Reading Room. Its primary constituency is the students and faculty in the schools of Arts and Sciences, Engineering, and Professional Studies in Business and Education. Key partners in the academic enterprise, the Libraries are a leader in the innovative application of information technology and have implemented notable diversity and organizational development programs. Qualifications: MLS from an ALA accredited library school, with at least 3 years of job-related experience, including extensive knowledge of library preservation, conservation, and collections management principles, practices, and issues. Knowledge of and experience with formatting technologies, including the application of digital technologies to preservation. Demonstrated administrative and supervisory experience, preferably in an academic research library preservation/conservation program. In addition, familiarity with the national and international library arena and preservation/conservation issues and ability to develop inter/intra-institutional cooperation.
