Subject: Removing rust and verdigris from armor
Three products used to great effect over here for the removal of rust and verdigris are Biox Conservation Liquid, Biox Conservation Gel (ideal for use with dissimilar metals and for more localised treatments where immersion may not be practical) and Renaissance De-Corroder. Both Biox Conservation Liquid and Gel are non-classified as far as hazards go,though both may dry out unprotected skin after prolonged immersion or contact. Biox Conservation products have been used to great effectiveness on everything from blunderbusses and World War I tanks to coins and jewelry, archaeological finds and even deep sea diving apparatus (for which coincidently Biox Conservation Gel is approved by the Lloyds Register on deep-sea breathing gear). Similarly Renaissance De-Corroder is a non-toxic immersion based system for rust removal consisting of an amine complex of hydro-oxycarboxilic acid in aqueous solution, it too is classified as non hazardous. Our offices here in the United Kingdom and in Springfield, America will be happy to provide technical and material safety data sheets sheets and samples for all three products on request. Mark G.
