Policies for Digital Preservation ERPANET Training Seminar Fontainebleau, Paris, France Jan 29-30, 2003 ERPANET <URL:http://www.erpanet.org> is pleased to announce its second training seminar, "Policies for Digital Preservation". It will equip participants with the skills to develop and implement digital preservation policies. This two day training session, co-hosted by the Archives de France, will be held in Fontainebleau (near Paris) on January 29-30, 2003. Seminar Focus * Experience surrounding policies for digital preservation * Designing policies * Building policies * Evaluating the impact of digital preservation policies Format: After reviewing the need and urgency for digital preservation policies and their organisational context, the key points of developing a digital preservation policy will be presented. The second day will focus on digital preservation policies, their impact on organisations, and how to measure their effectiveness. Who Will Benefit from Attending: The topics presented in this seminar are crucial to both commercial and public sector organisations. It targets management and personnel responsible for the retention of digital assets including records managers, archivists, technologists, auditors, and senior business managers. Through learning about the processes of developing and ensuring corporate buy-in to a digital preservation policy, the seminar provides participants with the insight necessary to carry out such development and implementation work within their own organisations. Programme Opening: January 29, 2003, 9 am Session 1: Context and objectives Session 2: Issues to be addressed Session 3: Impact on organisation Session 4: Implementing digital preservation policies Closing: January, 30, 2003 5 pm Expert speakers include John McDonald (John McDonald Consulting), Marie-Claude de la Godelinais (Institut National de la Statistique et des Etudes Economiques), Ellis Weinberger (Cambridge University Library). The venue at INSEAD, one of the worlds premier business schools, has been kindly made available by the Archives de France. Social Programme: For the afternoon of January 28th, the day before the seminar, we have organised a trip to the Chateau of Fontainebleau.
