Subject: Call for papers--UKIC Ethnography Section
Caught in a Compromising Position UKIC Ethnography Section Spring Seminar and AGM Museum of London April 19, 2004 Papers are sought from those who have had to reconcile and adapt to the demands and changing priorities of conservators of ethnographic collections within a climate of shifting expectations for such collections. Possible areas of discussion include: * How to reconcile the often conflicting requirements of time, long-term object care and ethics? Particularly when there is increasing interaction with corporate and project culture. * Access to collections. This is becoming an ever more important priority for many museums. Has this influenced treatment or display decisions? * The development of innovative approaches to funding constraints. * Whether such activities raised awareness of the role of conservation or illustrated the decision making processes involved. The Deadline for receipt of provisional titles and synopses of papers is February 27, 2004 Would those interested in submitting proposals please contact, Louise Lawson Mclellan Galleries 270 Sauchiehall Street Glasgow G2 3EH louise.lawson [at] cls__glasgow__gov__uk or Dervilla O'Dwyer Palaeontology Conservation Unit The Natural History Museum Cromwell Road South Kensington London SW7 5BD dero [at] nhm__ac__uk To register, please contact Roisin Miles People's History Museum 103 Princess Street Manchester M1 6DD rosettadubh [at] yahoo__co__uk *** Conservation DistList Instance 17:50 Distributed: Tuesday, January 20, 2004 Message Id: cdl-17-50-014 ***Received on Tuesday, 13 January, 2004
