Subject: Copper bell
The Antiga Si Church, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, has five copper alloy bells that we wish to clean without losing its green oxide patina. Dirt comes mainly from automotive pollution and pigeon droppings. We tried to apply a cloth soaked with water and neutral detergent than gently rubbing with nylon brushes. The result was almost null. Do anyone has an experience to share about this or similar issue, like cleaning statues? Eng. Carlos Dion M.
