Subject: Contemporary mixed media painting
I am a BA student working on my final project, a collection of contemporary mixed media material. One of the objects is a mixed media painting on canvas. The following is the artist's description of her technique: "I am using untreated raw bee's wax. The canvas piece is gessoed. Then paper collaged on it, followed by a layer of bee's wax. Then oil pigmented again, burnt umber I think and then if I remember right there is a layer of dammar varnish." The painting has a large, deep scratch from a nail, which goes through all the layers and the canvas. I am in the research stages and trying to collect a variety of ideas for treatment. Suggestions? *** Conservation DistList Instance 17:58 Distributed: Monday, March 8, 2004 Message Id: cdl-17-58-012 ***Received on Monday, 1 March, 2004
