SPNHC 2004 Museum SOS: Strategies for Emergency Response and Salvage May 11-16, 2004 The Society for the Preservation of Natural History Collections (SPNHC) is holding its 19th annual meeting in New York at the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) May 11-16, 2004. The special technical session--Museum SOS: Strategies for Emergency Response and Salvage--is a full day session of invited speakers focusing on topics of widespread interest including national and international alliances and response, preparedness and salvage in the event of armed conflict (with specific focus on Iraq), salvage efforts in Czech Republic post-floods, recovery efforts at the Pentagon post 9/11, and much more. An additional one-day workshop will focus more specifically on salvage techniques within the first 24 hours of an event. The general technical sessions will focus on topics concerning bridge building in natural sciences collections management and conservation, archives, data management and research/technical studies. Additional highlights include a one-day field trip to the Yale Peabody museum, tours of the AMNH collections, and a joint session with ISBER (International Society for Biological and Environmental Repositories) focusing on frozen tissue preservation.
