Environmental Officer Assistant Sculpture Conservator Textiles Conservator Assistant Shipkeeping Conservator National Museums Liverpool National Museums Liverpool is a unique organisation with responsibilities both as a major national museum group, and as a regional and local museum service for people in Liverpool and the northwest. Environmental Officer (Ref. 2004/033) National Museums Liverpool Salary UKP16,144 to UKP18,829 This established post will be based in the Conservation Science and Research Laboratory at the Conservation Centre, and will involve regular visits to all the display and storage venues in National Museums Liverpool. You will be responsible for monitoring the environment at all National Museums Liverpool sites, and will liaise with conservators, curators and M&E engineers to improve environmental conditions for our collections. In addition to the maintenance of existing systems, you will set up new systems for monitoring temperature, relative humidity, light and UV levels. You will provide training for staff in environmental monitoring and in pest monitoring and control. You will also be responsible for co-ordinating an integrated pest management program throughout our collections. There will be opportunities for research into aspects of preventive conservation, using the laboratory's analytical facilities. To be successful you will have either a nationally recognised conservation qualification, or a degree in a relevant scientific subject. Experience in environmental monitoring and control for museum collections is desirable. Computer literacy is essential, and knowledge of the software for environmental monitoring systems used in museums would be an advantage. Assistant Sculpture Conservator (Ref: 2004/034) Salary UKP12,813 2 Year Fixed Term Contract We are looking for an Assistant Conservator to work within the Sculpture and Inorganic Conservation Section. Based at the Conservation Centre, with an element of onsite work you will have 5 GCSEs or equivalent with some practical experience of conservation. You will have good craft skills and be self-motivated with good interpersonal skills. Knowledge of archaeology or the history of sculpture is desirable, as is experience of documentation and record keeping, photography and computing. Textiles Conservator (2 posts) (REF: 2004/041) Salary UKP16,144 - UKP18,829 6 Month Fixed Term Contract The Conservation Centre is looking for two people to conserve and install textile and costume items for National Museums Liverpool's new Into the Future galleries, and for forthcoming temporary exhibitions. National Museums Liverpool has extensive ethnographic, decorative art and social history collections, and the work will be very varied. As well as carrying out conservation treatments, and mounting objects for display you will be included in planning installation and in the general work of the Section. Occasionally you may be asked to take part in behind the scenes tours or similar events for the public and specialist groups. You will hold a recognised conservation qualification relevant to textile objects and ideally you will have practical experience of working in a museum environment. You will have good organisational skills and be able to keep clear, accurate and accessible records of treatments. You will be a clear communicator, able to liaise effectively with others. Assistant Shipkeeping Conservator (Ref: 2004/050) Salary UKP12,813 You will assist in the care, conservation and restoration, where applicable, of National Museums Liverpool's important Ship and Boat collection and other objects. You will have 5 GCSE's or equivalent and will have acquired good woodworking craft skills. You will be part of a dedicated team and will assist staff across a range of skilled tasks. Experience in use of hand and power tools is required as is manual dexterity, physical fitness and the ability to work at heights. Basic knowledge of ships and boat materials, their structures and their care is desirable. As is the ability to use computers, keep records and compile reports.
