Conservation 2004 Working with the project culture Merseyside Maritime Museum Albert Dock, Liverpool July 8-9, 2004 Organised by United Kingdom Institute for Conservation (UKIC) Sponsored by English Heritage and Plowden Smith In July 2004 the United Kingdom Institute for Conservation (UKIC) will host its first general conference since 1988. This will provide an ideal opportunity for fellow professionals to meet together and discuss their opinions and share their knowledge. The topic, Working with the Project Culture, is crucial, one on which experiences and ideas need to be pooled for the benefit of the profession as a whole. The conference will be split into four sessions over two days: Session 1: Changing Practice in a Changing World Chair: Rob White, Principal Keeper, Conservation, Lincolnshire County Council Heritage Service Session 2: Unmasking Attitudes, Personalities and Politics Chair: Simon Cane, Head of Collections Care, Birmingham Museums and Art Gallery Session 3: Trials, Tribulations and Triumphs Chair: May Cassar, Director, Centre for Sustainable Heritage, UCL Session 4: How to Plan for a Better Future Chair: Sarah Staniforth, Head Conservator, The National Trust The conference presents an opportunity for anyone involved in conservation to share their thoughts and debate the different challenges being faced. Whether you are a conservation scientist or researcher, a museum director or curator, an archaeologist, a Heritage fundraiser or a politician, this conference will be of interest to you. All delegates are also invited to attend the conference dinner on July 8, 2004, which will be held in Liverpool Town Hall. Liverpool Town Hall, located in the Castle Street conservation area of the city, is one of the finest surviving 18th century Town Halls in the country. Home to the Lord Mayor and host to visitors from all over the world it is one of the city's richest assets. On Saturday July 10, 2004, delegates, and their partners, will have the option to take a guided tour, which will include the Liverpool Conservation, Liverpool Museum, St George's Hall and a walking tour of Liverpool's historic buildings and monuments. There will be a full technical trade exhibition in support of the conference. This will be an integral feature of the event and will provide organisations with the ideal opportunity to showcase their skills and products to a focused audience.
