Subject: Workshop on cleaning historic textiles
Aqueous Systems for Cleaning Historic Textiles workshop deadline extended Spaces are still open for AIC's "Aqueous Systems for Cleaning Historic Textiles" workshop to be held July 26-30 at The Winterthur Museum in Delaware. Richard Wolbers, Joy Gardiner, and Kathleen Kiefer are the instructors. The five-day workshop will cover the principles of wet cleaning, the components of cleaning (surfactants, brighteners, chelators, etc.) and will combine morning lectures with afternoon practical sessions. The workshop will include techniques used at Winterthur, selection of equipment and water, enzymes and their uses, and non-aqueous solvents used in combination with wet cleaning. Participants will learn how to characterize each cleaning problem and how to select from the range of materials and techniques available. Knowledge of and experience with conservation is required. The original deadline of June 10 has been extended; registrations will be accepted as long as space is available. The cost for AIC members is $600; non-members $750.
