Upper Midwest Conservation Presents: The Care and Preservation of Book and Archival Materials: Storage Enclosures This workshop will travel to Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin to provide instruction on preservation in libraries and archives with special focus on the use and creation of archival storage enclosures. The specific topics covered by this workshop will be: Agents of deterioration, mold and mildew prevention, pests, environmental controls and disaster recovery. Participants will learn how to make various acid-free enclosures for paper artifacts, books and photographs including matting and framing options, polyester encapsulation and encapsulation corners, four flap folders, custom made book boxes, and techniques for rolled storage of oversized paper artifacts. The workshop will be offered for the following dates and locations: Jul 26-27, 2004 Wisconsin Historical Society Madison, Wisconsin Aug 2-3, 2004 Karl E. Mundt Library and Archives Madison, South Dakota Aug 5-6, 2004 Iowa State University Ames, Iowa Aug 12-13, 2004 State Historical Society of North Dakota Archives Bismarck, North Dakota Aug 19-20, 2004 James J. Hill Library St. Paul, Minnesota The fees for this workshop are $245 or $195 for UMCA members. Discounted fees are available to institutions with budgets at or below $50,000. These institutions pay $75 per day or $50 per day with UMCA membership. Students are also welcome. Full time or preprogram students pay a flat fee of $35 / day.
