Forging Modernities: California Metals in Context A Conference in Oakland and the Bay Area November 12-14, 2004 You are invited to "Forging Modernities: California Metals in Context}. To examine and place modernity in California silver and metalwork in context, we hear from scholars, metalsmiths, and others who contribute significantly to this field of inquiry. Among the speakers are Cynthia Adler, Susan Cummins, Marilyn da Silva, Jack da Silva, Mary Douglas, Jeannine Falino, Mary Lee Hu, Myra Mimlitsch-Gray, and Christina Y. Smith. Formal sessions are complemented by events, among them evenings at the Oakland Museum of California, Argentum--The Leopard's Head, and Shreve's and events at Gump's and the California College of the Arts--Oakland Campus.
