The Tate Collection division is responsible for the development,
research, care and conservation of the Collection to facilitate Tate
programmes of display and exhibition at all sites, travelling
exhibitions and loans out. Within this division, our Conservation
department has a mission to bring excellence and innovation to the
conservation and appreciation of art in Tate's Collection and care.
We have a variety of exciting opportunities for you to join us in
achieving this.

Painting Conservator - Maternity Cover
Starting salary: UKP21,000 pa pro-rata * 6-12 months/3 days per week

Covering maternity leave in our Painting Conservation team, you
will focus on Tate's loan-out programme. Your responsibilities
will include providing recommendations on the suitability of
paintings for loan, condition checking, and providing
documentation and conservation treatments where necessary. A
specific project will be the preparation of thirty seven
paintings by Turner for a touring exhibition to the USA.

You will hold a recognised post graduate qualification in the
conservation of easel paintings and have at least three years'
relevant experience after training. You will have good practical
skills with experience of working with paintings across a broad
spectrum. In addition, strong communication, organisational and
analytical skills are essential. Ref. 4112/CR

Assistant Conservator - Time-Based Media
Starting salary: UKP17,000 pa * 2 year fixed term contract

Time-based media conservation is responsible for works with a
film, video, slide, audio or computer-based element. You will be
assisting in a European-funded project to set benchmarks for the
preservation of installation art. This will involve working on
case studies, assessing appropriate methods of analysis and
documentation, compiling written and visual project records and
assisting with the administration of the project. This post
provides an opportunity for a conservator to develop practical
and technical knowledge of time-based media works of art and
engage in a challenging new area of conservation.

With a relevant degree and recognised qualification in
conservation (or equivalent training), you will bring at least
two years' general conservation experience, enjoy working with
technology and have excellent analytical and technical ability
and strong organisational skills. Ideally you have experience of
working with contemporary works of art and some experience of
time-based media. You will be able to work effectively within a
team or independently and work to tight deadlines. Ref 4113/CR

Conservation Scientist - 3 year PhD Fellowship
Starting salary: UKP17,000 pa

This fellowship presents you with a rare opportunity to acquire
specialist skills and knowledge in the characterisation of
modern and contemporary paints. It will involve initiating a
long term study into the mechanical properties of modern paints
in collaboration with the Courtauld Institute and Imperial
College, London, where you will register for a PhD. You will
also operate and develop the analytical instruments (PyGCMS and
    FTIR) in Tate's science laboratory.

To be eligible for this fellowship you must have a master's
degree in a physical science, preferably chemistry or
engineering. At least three years' experience with mechanical
testing instruments and one (or preferably both) of the
specified analytical techniques is essential. You will also need
to have significant knowledge of modern painting materials and
    conservation research. Ref 4114/CR

Frames Conservation - 2 year Internship
Starting salary: UKP15,000 pa

Gaining invaluable experience of working in a major art
institution, you will learn about museum practice, and
contribute to the daily work of the Frames Conservation section.
Over two years, you will have the opportunity, under
supervision, to carry out examination, documentation and
treatment of a variety of frames from the Collection.

You will need a recognised conservation qualification in frames
or equivalent experience. Importantly you should be fully
committed to developing your career within the frame
    conservation profession. Ref. 4115/CR
