The Field Museum <URL:http://www.fieldmuseum.org> seeks a
conservator to undertake the duties of exhibition conservation. The
Assistant Conservator works under the supervision of the Chief
Conservator and the Exhibition Manager, in consultation with the
Anthropology and Exhibitions Department Chairs, and appropriate
curators.

Duties include:

    1.  Undertakes and coordinates documentation, examination, and
        conservation procedures on Anthropology objects requested
        for exhibition and deinstalled from exhibits, under the
        supervision of the Chief Conservator in consultation with
        the Head of Collections, Department Chair and appropriate
        Curators.

    2.  Consults regularly with Exhibitions development, design and
        preparation staff, the Exhibitions Registrar, and the
        Collection Manager-Exhibits on developing and maintaining
        exhibit standards that meet conservation criteria (including
        testing materials for display, establishing environmental
        and support requirements, and providing advice on design
        issues to promote effective and efficient access and
        maintenance).

    3.  Assists as necessary with maintenance of permanent exhibits,
        including documentation of changes in object condition.
        (Permanent exhibits includes those containing objects on
        loan to the Exhibits Department from outside the Museum and
        from other departments in the Museum as well as Anthropology
        objects)

    4.  Is responsible for conservation evaluation and work for
        in-coming, out-going and in-house exhibits as necessary,
        including condition reports and conservation/environment
        issues in loan contracts, in conjunction with the
        Exhibitions Registrar.

    5.  Assists Conservation Staff in laboratory maintenance.

    6.  Attends and contributes to professional meetings, workshops,
        and other activities as appropriate to keep current in the
        field of conservation, enhance professional knowledge and
        skills, and disseminate information developed on the job.

    7.  Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Candidates must have a graduate degree in Conservation or equivalent
training. Training and experience in exhibitions conservation and in
the conservation of objects is preferred. Demonstrated written and
verbal communication skills, and demonstrated conservation knowledge
and skills are required.

This is a one-year term position, possibly renewable. The position
is available immediately, but will remain open until filled. The
salary range is in the mid-thirty thousand dollars per annum,
depending on experience, and a competitive benefits package is
offered.
