Consolidating wood on painted panels

Re Miguel Alexandre Oliveira Garcia's query on consolidation of
checked wood, I suggest you try methyl cellulose. Ordinarily, MC is
not a very strong consolidant, and doesn't tend to work as an
adhesive to stick two things together, but I have found that for
some reason it works well with powdery or other soft wood. When you
apply it, it may take a few minutes to wet the surface--it sometimes
sits there in blobs before it sinks in--if that happens, you can try
wetting the surface with alcohol first or adding a wetting agent to
the adhesive. With a panel painting, it may be best to follow it
with wax or something else.
