Subject: Publication on photographic conservation
Fundamentals of Photograph Archiving: A Manual, by S. Dobrusskin, W. Hesse, M. Jurgens, K. Pollmeier, M. Schmidt is now available in an English translation through the internet. Photographs are sensitive objects. Their preservation requires expertise and foresight. Preventive action against their deterioration is the main challenge for us today. A current publication, which has been very successful in German speaking countries, offers the necessary basic knowledge for the care of historic and contemporary photographs. Private collectors, curators of public collections, photographers, conservators, archivists and other museum professionals, librarians, scientists, and amateurs will find easy to understand information on storage conditions and rules for the adequate handling of their photographs. Following the pattern "Avoid..." and "Use...", the preservation of photographs is discussed in 125 rules that cover issues relating to storage climate, furniture, boxes, enclosures, handling, duplication, and publishing. An appendix includes a list of the appropriate international standards, a bibliography, links and a list of organizations. The manual was compiled by internationally experienced photograph conservators who are members of the editorship of the German language technical journal "Rundbrief Fotografie". The English translation is now available through the internet. Fundamentals of Photograph Archiving. A Manual by S. Dobrusskin, W. Hesse, M. Jurgens, K. Pollmeier, M. Schmidt.
