After the main presentation, there will be an informal question/answer session and an opportunity to look at papers and artefacts from India, Bhutan and Nepal. Dr Derek Priest will present a seminar on 'Sizing'. The aim of this seminar is to give information on the sizing of paper, dealing first, briefly, with some relevant basic surface chemical aspects such as wetting and spreading. The various meanings of the term "sizing" will be dealt with, how sizing is achieved, the effects produced by sizing and how they are measured. To keep the discussion within reasonable bounds, emphasis will be on papers of historic importance, likely to be encountered by paper conservators. An informal question/answer session will follow the main presentation. Please feel free to extend this invitation to other interested colleagues.
