Conservator (Textile) British Museum Department of Conservation, Documentation and Science Ref: 70129 UKP18,537 pa This is a contract position (five months) to continue conservation on an important group of early Asian textiles, collected by Sir Aurel Stein. You will be expected to implement and help to develop suitable conservation treatments, working closely with the Conservator leading the project and with curatorial colleagues. There will also be occasions when you will work on the wider textile collection at The British Museum, which is particularly rich in ethnographic and archaeological textiles. Person specification: We are looking for a qualified Conservator with an interest in working in a large and busy national museum. You must demonstrate in your application that you have suitable qualifications for the post and practical experience following graduation is desirable. You must be able to work as part of a small team, yet be able to work independently. Good workflow planning skills are desirable. You will be required to work closely with other professionals within the Museum and good communications skills are essential. The successful candidates will predominantly be based at our North London studios. Most of the daily work will be carried out in the studio, but sometimes it is more convenient for staff to work in galleries or storage areas.
