Subject: Window films
A local museum is considering cutting down light and uv passing through the windows of storage rooms by applying aluminium foil to the inside of the glass. This would reflect light back out through the glass. Are there likely to be problems with this? Could heat build up in the glass and cause a problem? Would the heat build-up in the foil cause a problem? I've checked the Cons DistList archives and maximum temperatures of 121 deg C have been measured at Monticello between window glass and interior storm window panels. Does anyone have any suggested adhesives to hold the foil to the glass? Alternatively, the foil could be applied to rigid panels, mounted inside the window but allowing air to circulate between the panel and the glass. What do colleagues think of this as an option? It's more expensive, of course.
