Workshops on conservation mounting and framing of art on paper York Minster Library 28-29 June 2005 Tutor: Richard Hawkes Places limited to 10 people Cost: UKUKP80 per day before 1st May 2005; UKUKP90 after. Cost includes morning and afternoon refreshments. Workshop will enable participants to create stable methods of housing and display for works of art, each with a high quality of finish. These are practical courses aimed at paper conservators, or those in related disciplines, who want to add to or develop their skills. The courses will include both demonstration and practical-based sessions. Each participant will receive a copy of comprehensive course notes, outlining techniques, materials and suppliers. Day one: Participants will refine techniques for a variety of inlays, float-mounting, guarding, lining and hinging. The range of materials and their uses will be discussed. Solutions for mounting potential problem media, such as pastels will be taught. Day two: A wide range of mount variations for different situations will be demonstrated. Mount cutting and constructions will be practised. Conservation framing, with particular emphasis on methods of re-using historic frames and framing materials will be taught.
