Preservation Team Leader Dunedin Public Libraries Dunedin New Zealand Dunedin Public Libraries has library collections totalling over 700,000 items. Constant attention must be given to these collections to ensure that they are in good condition for lending and reference. The Moray Place Library is fortunate to have an in-house Preservation Unit dedicated to hand bookbinding as well as preventative and conservation treatments of these materials. The Preservation Unit employs four full-time staff members as well as one part- timer with further scope for expansion. There is currently a vacancy for a Preservation Team Leader who will be responsible for the range of hand bookbinding and conservation treatments applied to selected items in the Dunedin Public Libraries' collections and for the effective management and operation of the Preservation Unit (former Bindery). External work for other institutions or individuals may be undertaken if appropriate. The successful applicant must have a qualification and background in hand bookbinding and have the interest and capacity to learn and apply new skills in conservation aspects of collection care such as making enclosures for long term retention of vulnerable materials and cradles for use in library exhibitions. Communication, leadership and flexibility are attributes which are keenly sought and anyone considering this position should be able to clearly demonstrate their ability to meet these specifications from previous experience. The normal hours of work for this position are 40 hours per week Monday - Friday to be worked between 8.00am - 5.30pm (negotiable).
