Part-time freelance Editor Newsletter and Bulletin for the Institute of Conservation The Institute of Conservation is looking for an editor to manage and develop its new look Newsletter and Bulletin. The Newsletter will be published bimonthly (ie six times a year) and aims to keep the membership of the Institute in touch with current issues associated with the profession of conservation, the broader conservation community and related fields. The Bulletin will be produced every month giving up-to-the minute news and employment opportunities. This will be a paid post, requiring a commitment of approximately 110-120 hours in each two months of production. The first issues are scheduled for autumn 2005. The job involves originating and commissioning, collating, editing and proofing a range of news items and conservation features in preparation for printing. The ideal candidate will be able to balance a demanding workload, be highly motivated and able to develop and apply ideas. You will recognise and implement publishing initiatives, which meet readers' and members' needs. Knowledge of conservation-restoration and a minimum of two years' relevant publishing experience are essential, as are proven writing, editing and proofing skills. Also vital are excellent organisation and time management skills. You will be able to work well under pressure and on your own initiative. You will be meticulous and have an eye for detail and pride yourself on working to a high standard and to strict deadlines. You will be expected to work on your own but you will have contact with the publications officer of the Institute, a team of volunteer group editors and the printer and--depending on your experience of DTP etc--a production editor, with whom you will have to liaise. Knowledge of rapid journal publication, DTP packages, ideally QuarkXPress, Illustrator and PhotoShop would be desirable.
