Head of Paper Section National Maritime Museum Salary range: UKP24,000 - UKP29,000 The National Maritime Museum is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Works of Art on Paper Conservator. The postholder will manage a team of three Paper Conservators and be responsible for the day to day management of the Paper Conservation Studios. The post holder will also be responsible for and undertake the conservation work required for the prints and drawings collections, including preparation for display. The Museum's collections include paintings, ship plans, charts, maps, historic photographs, books, manuscripts, prints, drawings and globes. The primary responsibility for the post holder will be to support the Museum's exhibition, loan, access and collection care programmes. Duties and Responsibilities * Manage, assess and prioritise workload for staff in the Paper section * Responsible for the preservation and conservation of Works of Art on Paper * Devise and implement strategies for completing sections projects/tasks within a given time frame to facilitate access to collections * Work in partnership with the Display Care team to ensure that exhibition needs are met * Liase closely with the Registration team to facilitate the Museum's loan and access programmes * Co-ordinate the Paper Section's work with other members of the Conservation and Preservation team to ensure the Museum's aims are achieved * Manage special project short-term staff or external contractors as required * Organise and participate in training programmes both within the Museum and externally * To undertake courier trips and advise with installations * Manage and undertake condition surveys of the collections as required to inform access projects * Ensure appropriate documentation of all work undertaken and provide statistical analysis of Section's activity * Responsible for ensuring Health and Safety Policy/Risk Assessments/COSHH Assessments are observed Background and Experience: Accredited Works of Art on Paper Conservator with five years' minimum practical conservation experience Three years minimum proven management experience Effective organisational, project and time management skills Experience of couriering A high degree of literacy with a fluent writing style and excellent verbal communication skills Experience with use of word processing, spreadsheet and database systems Enthusiastic and flexible approach to work Terms and Conditions: Core hours of work will be 41 per week, 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday, with an additional hour to be worked as agreed upon with management.
