The Director for Preservation works under the general direction and supervision of the Associate Librarian and Deputy Associate Librarian for Library Services. The Director for Preservation position is located in the Office of the Director for Preservation, Preservation Directorate, Library Services. Duties: Coordinates and oversees, within established Library policies and priorities, all activities throughout the Library relating to the preservation and physical protection of Library materials (140 million items in all formats). Has overall responsibility, as well as delegates authority, for the oversight and administration of broad, emerging, and/or critical preservation programs for the twenty-first century. Is responsible for the direction and management of the Library of Congress preservation program. Provides direction to the heads of the Binding Office, Preservation Research and Testing Offices, Preservation Microfilming Office, Conservation Office and members of the National Preservation Program Office. Serves as the primary advisor on various programs and events specifically in the area of preservation. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with various high-level individuals, legislative and executive agencies, executives of major corporations, and members of the public. Contacts, advises, and collaborates with high-ranking officials, such as agency heads, top congressional staff officials, state executives, legislative leaders, and/or executives of comparable private sector organizations.
