Subject: Lecture on protective enclosures
Simple Protective Folder and Box Construction Tuesday 31 January 2006 (Evening lecture ) The October Gallery, Londonia House, 24 Old Gloucester Road, Bloomsbury, London WC1N 3AL 6pm Speaker: Paul Cook, National Maritime Museum. Cost: UKP6 (students UKP3, with card) correct money at the door please After conservation treatment it is often advisable to provide some level of transit protection or a storage enclosure for an item. For those conservators without access to mount cutting and box making equipment or technical assistance, it may be necessary to make some simple enclosure or container by hand. Although a large range of commercial products are now available, for the occasions where an item is a one off, of unusual size or makeup, or requires a very particular packaging solution, a simply constructed, easily made bespoke enclosure is usually possible. Paul will illustrate with digital image sequences, simple demonstration and examples, some of the solutions, construction methods--and little craft tricks--that have been devised using paper, card and corrugated board to make enclosures for a wide variety of paper items that have passed through the paper conservation studio of the National Maritime Museum. IPC are delighted to announce that drinks will be served and that they have been sponsored by Secol Limited--the leading UK manufacturer of archival polyester storage systems.
